# Ask questions in Chats and manage your chat history

This article covers the Chats tab: asking a question, reading the answer, and finding or tidying up past conversations.

## The Chats tab

Chats is for questions: about your numbers, about accounting, or about how to use Tabby.

1. **New chat.** Starts a fresh conversation.
2. **Search and topic filters.**
3. **Your chats.** Pinned chats first, then the rest by date.
4. **Starter questions.** Grouped under Your numbers, Get it done and Using Tabby. Click one to ask it.
5. **The message box.**

Each chat remembers its own context, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself. Start a new chat when you change subject.

### What an answer looks like

Tabby formats answers so they're easy to scan: headline figures, short lists, tables, and a note about where the numbers came from.

The buttons at the bottom of an answer take you straight to the next step, such as opening the report or the transactions that still need a category.

Chats can do tasks too. If you ask a chat to categorize transactions or draft an invoice, you'll get the same question, form and approval cards as in the Agent tab.

## Find and organize past chats

### Search

Type in **Search titles and messages**. Search reads every message, not just titles, and shows the matching line with your search term highlighted. Press `/` to jump to the search box.

*Two chats mention "adobe". Neither has it in the title.*

### Filter by topic

The chips under the search box filter your chats: **All**, **Pinned**, and topics such as Reports, Taxes, Invoices, Banking and How-to. Tabby sorts chats into topics for you. The number on each chip shows how many chats it holds.

Chats are grouped by date: Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days, Previous 30 days, then by month. Click a month heading to fold it away.

### Pin, rename or delete a chat

Hover over a chat and click the three dots.

* **Pin to top** keeps the chat in a Pinned group at the top of the list.
* **Rename** gives it a clearer title.
* **Delete chat** removes the chat and its messages. This can't be undone.

Deleting a chat doesn't reverse any changes you approved in it. Those stay in your books.

## Common questions

### Are my chats saved?

Yes. A chat stays in your history until you delete it. The AI disclosure explains how conversations are kept and deleted.
