# Bank connections: the three ways to bring in transactions

Tabby can only keep your books if it can see your transactions. Bank connections is where you decide how they get in: a live link to your bank, a Ramp integration, or statements you upload yourself.

## Three ways to bring in transactions

| Method | Best for | How transactions arrive |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Bank or credit card | Most US banks and card issuers | Automatically, through Plaid |
| Ramp cards | Ramp card spending | Automatically, through a direct integration that also brings receipts and memos |
| Upload statements | Banks Plaid can't reach, closed accounts, or older history | You upload a PDF, CSV or Excel file |

You can mix them. Many businesses link their main bank, then upload a few older statements to fill in history.

## A quick tour of the page

Open **Bank connections** from the left sidebar.

1. **Add connection.** Jumps to the Add a connection section and puts your cursor in the bank search.
2. **Plan usage.** How many linked accounts you're using out of the number your plan includes.
3. **Status.** Connected, Needs attention, or Statements.
4. **Sync now and Manage.** Pull the latest transactions, or open the connection's settings.
5. **Accounts.** Each account that's syncing, with its type, how it's used, and its balance.
6. **Accounts not syncing.** Other accounts Tabby found at the same bank login. Click **Review** to add one.
7. **Alert.** What went wrong with a connection and how to fix it.
8. **A statements account.** An account fed by uploaded files instead of a live link.
9. **Add a connection.** Where you start a new link.

### What the statuses mean

| Status | Meaning | What to do |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Connected | The link is working and transactions are importing. | Nothing. |
| Needs attention | The bank login has expired, so new transactions have stopped. | Reconnect. Nothing is lost. |
| Statements | The account gets its transactions from files you upload. | Upload new statements as they come in. |

## Read a connection card

The line under the bank name tells you how it's connected, how many accounts are syncing and when it last synced. Each row below is one account: its name and last four digits, its type, whether it's used for business only or for business and personal, and its current balance.

Click **Sync now** to check the bank for new transactions straight away. Tabby also syncs on its own, so you only need this when you're waiting for something specific.

## Linked accounts and your plan

Each plan includes a number of linked accounts. The counter at the top right of **Your connections** shows how many you're using. Accounts that sync through Plaid or Ramp count toward it. Statement uploads don't.

When you've used them all and try to add another, Tabby tells you.

You have three options: click **Compare plans** to upgrade, stop syncing an account you don't need, or upload statements for the extra account.

## Common questions

### What can Tabby do with my bank account?

Access through Plaid is read-only. Tabby uses it to import your balances and transactions, and never sees or stores your bank login.

### I use one card for business and personal spending

Set the account's **Used for** to **Business & personal**. You'll get a Personal option when you categorize, which keeps personal spending out of your books.
