# Banking and transactions

### How does Tabby connect to my bank?
Tabby connects through Plaid, the bank-connection service used by many US financial apps. You sign in to your bank inside Plaid's window, choose the accounts to share, and Plaid passes read-only transaction data to Tabby. Tabby never sees or stores your bank username or password.

### Which banks does Tabby support?
Tabby supports any institution Plaid supports, which is most US banks, credit unions and card issuers. Plaid lists more than 12,000 institutions. You can check yours in Tabby's bank search or on Plaid's list at https://plaid.com/docs/institutions/.

### Can Tabby move money or make payments from my bank?
No. The connection is read-only. Tabby can see transactions and balances, but it can't move money, pay bills or change anything in your bank account.

### What if my bank isn't supported?
Upload statements instead. Tabby reads PDF, CSV and Excel files, pulls out every transaction and asks you to review them before they post. You can upload up to 12 months of PDF statements at once.

### Do I have to connect my bank?
No. Connecting is optional. You can upload statements or enter transactions by hand, and you can switch to a live connection later.

### How far back can Tabby import transactions?
Tabby can pull up to 24 months of history through a bank connection, depending on what your bank shares. Some banks only share 60 to 90 days. For older periods, upload statements for the dates you need.

### How long does the first import take?
Usually a few minutes, but the first full import can take up to 24 hours depending on the bank. New transactions then sync automatically.

### How often do transactions sync?
Connected accounts sync automatically as your bank posts new transactions, usually within a day. Growth includes real-time sync.

### I connected my bank but don't see transactions. What should I check?
Give the first import up to 24 hours. Then check that the account is turned on in **Bank connections** and that your filters in **Bank feeds** aren't hiding anything. If the connection shows "Needs attention", reconnect it.

### Why do I need to reconnect my bank?
Banks ask you to sign in again after a password change, a new security step or a periodic check. When that happens the connection shows "Needs attention". Choose **Reconnect**, sign in through Plaid, and syncing resumes without losing history.

### Can I connect credit cards?
Yes. Connect credit cards the same way as bank accounts, through Plaid, or upload card statements. Each card counts as one connected account.

### Why do my credit card purchases show as income?
Some card issuers send purchases as positive amounts, because a purchase increases what you owe. Tabby records the data the way your card issuer sends it. If purchases on a card are landing as income, email support@usetabby.com with the card name, and the team will check the account setup and correct the import.

### What counts as a "connected account"?
Each bank account or credit card is one account. A checking account, a savings account and a credit card at the same bank count as three. Accounts you create for statement uploads count too.

### How many bank accounts can I connect?
Free includes 1, Standard 3, Pro 6 and Growth unlimited.

### Can I connect PayPal, Stripe, Square or Ramp?
Yes. Stripe and Ramp connect directly on Standard and above. PayPal, Square and Wise usually connect through Plaid like a bank. Ramp credit cards connect directly; Ramp Treasury connects through Plaid. Mercury, Shopify and a direct PayPal connection are listed as coming soon.

### Does Tabby work with Venmo, Cash App or Zelle?
Zelle payments appear automatically, because they show up in the bank account you connect. For Venmo or Cash App, connect them through Plaid if your account is listed, or upload a statement.

### How does Tabby avoid duplicate transactions?
Duplicates almost always come from uploading a statement for dates a live bank connection already synced. Wait for the first sync to finish, then upload statements for older dates only. If you see duplicates after an upload, delete that file under **Uploaded documents** on the Upload statement page and its transactions are removed with it.

### Can I connect an account I use for both business and personal spending?
Yes. Set the account's **Used for** to **Business & personal**. You then get a Personal option when you categorize, and personal transactions stay out of your Profit & Loss and tax-ready report.

### Can I split one transaction across categories?
Yes, on Pro and Growth. Split a transaction to put parts of it in different categories or classes, for example a store receipt that's part supplies and part equipment.

### How do I stop syncing an account?
Open **Bank connections**, choose the connection, and turn off the account. Transactions already imported stay in your books. To remove the whole connection, choose **Remove connection**.

### Can I upload a bank statement in a language other than English?
Not yet. PDF statement reading works with English-language statements. For other languages, convert the transactions to CSV or Excel and upload that file.
