How the Review queue works

Tabby categorizes most transactions on its own. The ones it isn't sure about wait for you on the Review page. Each one comes with Tabby's best suggestion, so clearing the queue is usually a matter of a few clicks.

This article explains what lands in Review and how the page is laid out.

What lands in Review

A transaction goes to Review when it has no category yet. That happens when Tabby hasn't seen the vendor before, when the bank description is too vague, or when a deposit could be either new income or a payment on an invoice you already sent.

You can tell there is work waiting from three places:

  • The red number next to Review in the sidebar.
  • The Review button on the Tabby AI status bar in Bank feeds.
  • The Needs attention list on your Dashboard.

Until you resolve them, these transactions have no category, so your reports can't put them in the right place. Clear the queue before you run month end reports.

A quick tour of the page

The Review page. The numbers match the list below.

  1. Page actions. Export the list, ask Tabby Talk for help, or accept all of Tabby's category suggestions at once.
  2. How Review works. A short reminder of your three options. Click the x to hide it for good.
  3. Tabs. To review is your queue. Reviewed is everything that has been resolved.
  4. Search and filters. Search by vendor, account or amount, show only money in or money out, or pick one account.
  5. Category. Every row starts with Choose category.
  6. Tabby suggests. Tabby's proposal for the row, with a one line reason underneath.
  7. Sidebar badge. How many transactions are waiting.

Three ways to resolve a transaction

Every transaction in the queue ends up in one of three places.

The reminder at the top of the page.

Option

Use it when

What happens

Choose a category

It's business spending or income.

The transaction is categorized and counts in your books.

Mark as personal

It isn't a business transaction.

The transaction is excluded from your books.

Match

The money pays an invoice or a bill, or it moved between your own accounts.

The transaction is linked to that record so it isn't counted twice.

Resolved transactions move to the Reviewed tab, and Tabby uses your choice for similar ones in future.

Where to click on a row.

  1. Choose category opens the full category list.
  2. The suggestion chip accepts what Tabby proposes.
  3. The three dots open the row menu, which includes Mark as personal and Match transaction.

What Tabby suggests

The Tabby suggests column shows one of three things.

A queue with all three kinds of suggestion.

A match. The chip reads Match INV-1042 (with your invoice number) and has a link icon. Tabby shows this when a deposit lines up with an open invoice. The reason underneath tells you how:

  • "Same amount as TechCorp Inc's open invoice" means the deposit equals the invoice balance.
  • "Partial payment on MediaPulse's $1,800.00 invoice" means the customer name fits but the deposit is smaller than the balance.

A category. The chip shows a category name with a sparkle icon. The reason is either "From your past Uber transactions", when you've categorized that vendor before, or "Based on the merchant type", when Tabby is going by the kind of business.

Ask Tabby. When Tabby has no confident suggestion, the chip reads Ask Tabby with the note "Not sure yet. Tabby can ask you a question." Clicking it opens Tabby Talk with the transaction's details so you can work it out together.

A row with no suggestion.

Common questions

Why is a transaction in Review when Tabby has a suggestion for it?

A suggestion is a guess that needs your OK. Tabby only categorizes on its own when it's confident, and sends the rest to you with its best idea attached.

Will Tabby learn from what I do here?

Yes. Tabby uses your choices for similar transactions. For a vendor you want handled the same way every time, create a rule from the Apply to similar dialog.
