Transaction details, bulk actions and export in Bank feeds

This article covers the rest of the Bank feeds page: the details panel for a single transaction, the tools for working on many transactions at once, and the ways to get your data in and out.

The transaction details panel

Click anywhere on a row to open its details on the right.

The Details tab of a card transaction.

The toolbar

The toolbar at the top of the panel.

  1. Previous and next transaction
  2. Mark as checked
  3. Match transaction
  4. Split transaction
  5. Ask Tabby Talk about this transaction
  6. Delete transaction
  7. Expand the panel
  8. Close

Details tab

The top half shows facts from your bank: the account, date, amount, source and the original bank description. You can't edit the amount on a bank transaction, because it comes straight from the bank.

The bottom half is yours to edit:

  • Category
  • Vendor / customer, with a switch to say which one it is
  • Business or personal
  • Class
  • Memo, a note for you or your accountant
  • Receipt. Click Upload to attach a photo or PDF, or Find it and Tabby looks for a matching receipt in your email.

When you change something, the footer shows Unsaved changes. Click Save changes to keep the edit or Discard to drop it. If you try to leave with unsaved changes, Tabby asks what you want to do.

A meal on a client trip moved to Travel, with a memo explaining why. Both edits are waiting to be saved.

On deposits, you may see a box asking whether the deposit includes sales tax. It appears if your business charges sales tax. Click Split out sales tax to separate the tax from your revenue.

The sales tax prompt on a deposit.

Journal entry tab

Shows how the transaction posts to your books, with the debit and credit lines. This is mostly for your accountant. Personal transactions don't post, so the tab shows what would post if you included the transaction as business.

Debits and credits always balance.

Activity tab

A history of everything that has happened to the transaction: when it was imported, what Tabby AI did, and every change your team made.

The newest event is at the top.

Mark transactions as checked

Checked means someone on your team has confirmed the category and details. It's a sign-off, separate from the category itself. Checked transactions show a green check next to their status.

You can mark a transaction as checked in three ways:

  • In the details panel, click Mark checked & next. Tabby marks it and opens the next transaction, which makes it quick to work down a list.
  • In the row menu, choose Mark as checked.
  • Select several rows and click Mark checked in the bulk bar.

In the details panel, a pending transaction needs a category before you can mark it checked.

Work on several transactions at once

Tick the checkbox on two or more rows. A bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

The checkbox in the table header selects every row on the current page.

The row menu

Click the three dots at the end of a row.

The row menu.

  • Open details
  • Mark as checked or Mark as unchecked
  • Mark as personal or Include as business
  • Match transaction or Remove match
  • Split transaction or Remove split
  • Add class or Change class
  • Ask Tabby Talk about it
  • Delete transaction

The menu changes with the state of the row. A matched row offers Remove match, for example.

Delete a transaction

Choose Delete transaction from the row menu, or click the trash icon in the details panel.

Deleting asks for confirmation.

Deleting removes the transaction from your books. If it came from your bank feed, Tabby won't import it again.

Important: For personal spending, use Mark as personal instead of deleting. The transaction stays out of your books either way, but you keep the record and can bring it back later.

Export to CSV

Click Export at the top of the page. Tabby downloads a CSV of the list as you see it, so the current tab, search and filters all apply. Set your filters first if you only want part of your data.

The file includes the date, vendor or customer, account, category, class, status, whether it's checked, amount, bank description and memo.

Upload a statement

Click Upload statement to import transactions from a PDF, CSV or Excel statement. Use it for banks Plaid can't reach, closed accounts, or history older than your sync.

Ask Tabby Talk about a transaction

Not sure what a charge is? Choose Ask Tabby Talk about it from the row menu, or click the chat icon in the details panel. Tabby Talk opens with the transaction's amount, vendor and date already in your request. See Tabby Talk for more.

Common questions

Why can't I change the amount?

Amounts on bank transactions come from your bank and are locked. If a payment covers more than one thing, split it.
