General information
What is Tabby?
Tabby is AI bookkeeping software for US small businesses. It connects to your bank and credit card accounts, categorizes every transaction into the right tax category, and keeps a full double-entry general ledger. You get a Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statement and a tax-ready report without doing the bookkeeping by hand.
Who is Tabby for?
Tabby is built for solopreneurs, freelancers and small businesses in the US that want clean books without hiring a full-time bookkeeper. Typical users are real estate agents, contractors, consultants, coaches, restaurants, salons and other service businesses, and solo licensed professionals. Accountants and bookkeepers use Tabby for Accountants to manage their clients.
What does Tabby do?
Tabby does the day-to-day bookkeeping for you:
- Imports transactions from your bank and credit cards
- Categorizes them with AI and learns from your corrections
- Sends invoices, estimates and sales receipts, and records payments
- Tracks bills, vendors, receipts and 1099 contractors
- Produces financial statements and a tax-ready report for your CPA
How does Tabby work?
You connect your bank accounts through Plaid or upload statements. Tabby reads each transaction, suggests a category, a vendor and the matching tax line, and posts it to your books. Anything it isn't sure about goes to a Review queue for you to approve. Every correction teaches Tabby how you want similar transactions handled next time.
Who makes Tabby?
Tabby is made by Spensibly, Inc. (DBA Tabby), a Delaware corporation based in New York. It was co-founded by Ahad Ali, a CPA who runs the accounting firm Ahad & Co CPA, and Shah Paran, the CTO. The product was designed with input from working accountants, so the categories follow the IRS tax forms your CPA uses.
Is Tabby legit?
Yes. Tabby is a US company (Spensibly, Inc.) with more than 6,000 registered businesses and 200+ accounting firms using it as of October 2026. It was selected for the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 200 in 2026, and bank connections run through Plaid, the same provider many US banks and fintech apps use.
Is Tabby (usetabby.com) the same as the Tabby "buy now, pay later" app?
No. Tabby at usetabby.com is an AI bookkeeping company based in New York. The "buy now, pay later" service at tabby.ai is a separate, unrelated company in the Middle East. If you're looking for bookkeeping software, you're in the right place.
When was Tabby founded?
Tabby's company was formed in 2024, and the product launched publicly on Product Hunt on July 29, 2025.
Is Tabby an accounting firm?
No. Tabby is software. It doesn't give legal, tax, accounting or financial advice, and it doesn't file your tax return. It prepares the books and reports that you or your accountant use to file.
Does Tabby file my taxes?
No. Tabby gets you tax-ready: it categorizes income and expenses to IRS tax lines and produces a tax-ready report, a Profit & Loss and a Balance Sheet. You or your CPA use those to file. Automatic 1099 filing and a tax module are on the roadmap.
Is Tabby a QuickBooks alternative?
Yes. Tabby covers what most small businesses use QuickBooks Online for: bank feeds, categorization, invoicing, bills, a chart of accounts, journal entries, reconciliation and standard financial statements. The difference is that Tabby's AI does the categorizing and review work for you, and the Free plan costs nothing.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. Tabby has an iOS app on the App Store and an Android app on Google Play. The mobile apps are available in the US. You can review transactions and snap receipts on the go, then do the rest in the web app.
Is Tabby cloud based?
Yes. Tabby runs in your web browser, so there's nothing to install. Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in US regions and syncs across the web and mobile apps.
